Featuring Keynote Speaker Dr. James Hagadorn from Denver Museum of Nature & Science on Colorado's Newest Mass Extinction:

Hiding within Colorado’s mountainous successions of redbeds and ridge-capping strata, are rather ugly rocks that record Colorado’s passage through two mass extinctions. These include the end-Devonian event, 360 million years ago, and the Permian-Triassic event, 250 million years ago. Although challenging to decipher in outcrop and in the subsurface, they help us understand the geological tiramisu that lies beneath our feet in the Rocky Mountain region, and contain environmental indicators and fossils reflect the interplay between continental and marine conditions at transitions between wet and dry climates. Collectively, they have potential to inform our understanding of how inland continental settings were impacted by two global-scale biotic-environmental events.
